Master Bedroom Dreaming

One of the hardest rooms to decorate is my master bedroom.  Why?  Because this is a room I share with a man with very masculine taste.  And, because I think it's important he feels comfortable in this space, I consider his thoughts a lot when decorating our master bedroom.

Our bedroom currently looks like this:

It's a decent blend of the both of us, but it's always been a little too brown and monochromatic for me.

If there's one thing I have learned about myself, it's that I need color in my life to feel good!  The other thing I recently realized is that blues and reds are the colors that make me the happiest.

My blog friend, Lilly, called blue my "signature color."  I love that!  It makes me think of Shelby in Steel Magnolias (for those of you who haven't seen the movie, pink is her signature color.  It makes me laugh just thinking about her saying it!).

Well, it's time I add a little of my "signature color" to this room! (And, a longhorn cow for good measure, too - ha!)

Honestly, my husband likes blues that are a little bolder than this, but I am totally in love with the quilted pillow shams and absolutely adore everything about them.  (His eyes are usually closed in this room anyway so I think he'll live - ha!)

I think it will be easy to update with just a few tweaks here and there.

By the way...did you notice my kitty "hidden" in the picture?

My animals always like to be near me when I'm taking pictures for some reason.  They are cropped out of so many photos!

You may notice that a lot of my inspiration is from Pottery Barn:

They have so many things that totally fit my style and personality.

Aside from the bedding, I can find the mirrors other places if necessary.  I saw that Home Decorators has something similar for less money.

I found this faux grainsack pillow on Etsy but I can definitely make that myself.

As I usually do when decorating, I have a few splurges and a few bargains.

And, of course, the ideas I've assembled are always subject to change because I can get so easily sidetracked when I spot a beautiful fabric or something else that catches my eye. But, for now, I'm pretty excited about my plan.  I can't wait to get started!

Oh...and to update, I'm just about finished with my daughter's room.  I just have to hang a picture and a shelf on her wall and make a few minor adjustments and we're done.  She loves it and it really suits her personality.  I hope to be sharing that update with you soon!

Thanks for reading and happy Tuesday, y'all!

  1. Julie, your ideas are gorgeous. We need to spiff up our master too. Most of what is in there came from our old house. I like it but it would be fun to do new. Like you, I enjoy having a neutral background (white for me) with the color on top. It's easy and pretty.

  3. I'm drawn to all of the master bedroom updates I'm seeing lately because I am itching to re-do mine. I have a little design board going, but it is in my head because I don't know how to put the pics together the way you've done (need to learn to Pin)! I love the things you've chosen and I think they will be a perfect balance beteen your taste and your husband's. So nice to consider him in the design. Can't wait to see the finished result. 4. " My colors are blush and bashful. Her colors are pink and pink." Love those quilted shams. Do you shop at Pier 1? (I love it) Last week when I was there they told me that they have "daily deals" on their Facebook page (you have to "like" their page to get the deal). i.e. today's Daily Deal is 25% off picture frames. That sounded like an infomercial for Pier 1 but I love a bargain!

  10. Hi Julie,
I found you on Jen Rizzo's party. I'm in Texas, so Lilacs and Longhorns caught my eye! I love that line of Shelby's from SM. I use it all the time. I just love saying it. LOL
Enjoy your bedroom update...I'm doing a little of that all over the house, which means I have only wrecked my house! :)
